Marvel studios are coming up with its new American superhero movie, captain marvel. It is based on the marvel comic’s character captain marvel. This film is going to the twenty first film in the marvel cinematic universe under the production of marvel studios and distribution on Walt Disney studios motion pictures. The film is based on a purely fictional story written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with Meg LeFaule, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive, and Carly Mensch also contributing to the screenplay.Lead stars in this movie are Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, Mckenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. The story sets back in 1990s when the earth is caught in the centre of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.

Development was begun in early 2013 and was announced in late 2014. This is going to be the first Marvel movie having a woman as a lead superhero. The story follows Carol Danvers, a former US Air Force Pilot. She turned out into the Galaxy’s mightiest heroes and joins Star force.

Producer Louis D’ Esposito stated his interest in launching a female lead marvel superhero in an event. They were confused who to choose as a Captain Marvel as there were many strong female characters for the role of captain marvel and the possible candidates chosen were Black Widow, Pepper Potts, Peggy Carter.

President of Production at Marvel Studios Kevin Feige, said in a conference that  he would prefer captain marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a new character which can get a new origin story In August 2014, Feige stated that Black Panther and Captain Marvel were “both characters that they. They want it as a character on which the development work has done on and is continuing to be done on”.

Feige announced that Captain Marvel is expected to release on July 6, 2018, said in October 2014. He said the film and the character is being under development before Doctor Strange is come into being. Feige also stated that a writer and director will also be announced soon.

Early in 2015, marvel pushed back the release date of the movie from June 6, 2018 to November 2, 2018.

In February 2015, Marvel pushed back the release date to November 2,2018.the duo impressed Feige with their separate takes on the character and hence they were chosen as a writing team and they began working on the film within a month. Le Fauve found the character of captain marvel both “wonderful” and a challenging, particularly because of how the character is to be shown like a powerful character which could lead to the “Superman curse”.

Soon Marvel started discussions with Ava DuVernay about directing Captain Marvel.

Marvel in April 2017, Marvel hired Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to direct Captain. Feige and Marvel were impressed with Boden and Fleck’s work in creating stories which were character-driven. He said that the stories which they told have been so diverse, but regardful to the subject of matter, they can dive into it and hone in on that character’s journey. Feige ultimately felt that the film is needed to be about the three-dimensional, multilayered Carol Danver’s character.

In January 2018, Filming was scheduled to begin. It was fixed to be shoot at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia. But  Feige had expected  that it will not begin until February 2018.

Samuel L. Jackson was set to appear in the film, by july 2017 as Nick Fury. In 2017, Feige revealed that the main plot of the film.

in July,2017, the California Film Commission awarded a amount of US $20.7 million tax credit to the production for going towards the first $100 million spent on qualification in-state expenditure. This makes California the main filming location for Captain Marvel. Marvel planned to spend a sum of US $118.6 million in filming in the state.

Le Fauve left the project to co-direct Gigantic for Disney Animation. Therefore, Marvel hired Geneva Robertson-Dworet to complete the script. Robertson-Dworet described the film as an action-comedy, and compared her script with an initial one she wrote for Tomb Raider (2018).  Feige added that Captain Marvel would have “homages to our favorite ’90s action films (like Terminator 2) “, cool street level fights, street level car chases”, As the 1990s action genre films was one Marvel Studios had yet to explore.

By October, filming was decided to begin in March 2018. Feige described the film as the then Avengers 4, set for release after Captain Marvel. Ben Mendelsohn entered negotiations to join the film as the main villain. They had him in mind for the Captain Marvel villain when they first began working on this film’s story, and once they had met with him about the role, Mendelsohn quickly agreed to it.

Filming

Shooting of the film out of the studio started at the end of January 2018. At that time, Larson was in a green and black uniform instead of that red suit which is in comics. Many photos were leaked while shooting the film at real locations but many of them are looking behind the scenes

A month later, Gemma Chan joined the cast as Minn-Erva.  Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and Mckenna Grace were also set to star in this film. At the same time, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch were writing the screenplay of the film along with LeFauve, Perlman and Robertson-Dworet. Captain Marvel allows the characters of the film to become more prominent.

Main photography for the film began on March 19 in Los Angeles, under the banner of Warbird, with Ben Davis as the director of photography, he was working fourth time as a cinematographer in the MCU which includes Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Doctor Strange. A carnival scene was shot at the Jim Hall Racing Club in Oxnard, California. Filming at Shaver Lake outside Fresno, California was set to take place in April but was pushed back to mid-May. In April, 2018, Annette Bening joined the cast.

Post-production

Main work in the post production is of visual effects which were created by Lola VFX.

In May 2018, Clark Gregg indicated the film’s soundtrack would include songs from the 1990s.  Pinar Toprak signed on to compose the film’s score by the following month, making her the first woman to score an MCU film.
