Overview

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is an Indian biographical period drama film based on the life of Queen of Jhansi (Rani Laxmibai). This film is directed by Krish with Kangana Ranaut and produced by Zee Studios in association with Kamal Jain and Nishant Pitti. The film stars Kangana Ranaut in its lead role.

Principal photography of this film was begun in May, 2017. The film is set to be released on 25^th January, 2019.

Two special screening of the film was organized by Zee Entertainment for the Excellency of Shri Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and 2^nd one at Cultural Centre on 18^th January, 2019, in presence of Kangana Ranaut and her team just before release of the film which is on 25^th January, 2019. The President loved the film and felicitated the artists and crew of the film.

Plot

The film is based on the real life of Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi and her war against the British East India Company, during the Indian Revolution of 1857.

Sukant Panigrahy, Sriram Iyengar and Sujeet Sawant are the main production designers of the film. Sujeet and Sriram have also worked in production designing for Bajirao Mastani.

Principal photography completed on October, 2018. By that time, only 10 days of patch work left. Krish wanted to do that patch work and to direct N. T. R. simultaneously. But after that Sonu sood left the project and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub came in. With this change, the movie team was in the situation that they had to shoot all the scenes which involved Sonu Sood again. As Krish was busy in directing NTR movie, Ranaut took over direction. Therefore, both Kangana and Krish will receive director’s credit.
